If you don’t get a positive feeling when you think about having root canal treatment, we understand. Unfortunately, the myth that root canals are a difficult procedure has lived on for decades.
But we know that in the hands of experienced and skilled professionals like Dr. Nathan Bulleigh and our caring team, a root canal doesn’t have to be a stressful event for anyone.
At Dewey Dental, your comfort is our priority. We have performed many stress-free root canals, and our patients often comment that it was much more comfortable than they had imagined. When you trust and feel comfortable with the people overseeing your care, procedures like root canals are never difficult or stressful.
We need to start by clearing up the idea that the root canal procedure itself is painful. Many patients who need a root canal postpone treatment until they are in pain, and this is what they remember. But the fact is that the purpose of a root canal is to remove the infection that is causing your pain.
Deep inside your tooth, there's a space that houses nerves and blood vessels that are needed to keep the tooth alive. A root canal is necessary when a tooth is damaged by decay or injury that reaches the nerve. This can cause excruciating pain, and if we don't perform a root canal procedure, the pain will get worse, and tooth extraction may be the last resort.
During your root canal treatment, Dr. Bulleigh uses state-of-the-art tools called rotary endodontics to gently remove any trace of infection. When he’s sure that the infected material has been cleared away, he will disinfect and seal the tooth. Since a root canaled tooth becomes brittle over time, in most cases, we recommend a crown to protect it.
In spite of what we tell you about root canals, we know that you may still need some help to relax during your procedure.
At Dewey Dental, your comfort matters to us. For this reason, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation. We place a small comfortable mask over your nose, so all you need to do is sit back, breathe normally, and enjoy the soothing effects.
The sensations last only as long as we’re administering the gas, so after treatment, you’ll be able to resume your usual activities without any lingering effects.
It’s crucial for you to know that the problems that make root canal therapy necessary can be life-threatening if left untreated. Please don’t put off the treatment you need because of fear or anxiety. Let us provide you with root canal therapy in a comfortable environment with our gentle, compassionate touch.
If you are in pain and think you might need a root canal, please call Dewey Dental. We’ll make arrangements to see you as quickly as possible to provide you with the relief you need.
